I made this subway wall art for Elly's room. I wanted to be able to always remember those important stats because I forget them so easily, especially with three kids! To make it, I used the same technique as the photo on wood wall hanging.
To make:
first. Create the subway art: I made the first subway arts in Picnik and PicMonkey, but I have found that it is easier in Powerpoint, so now I make them all in powerpoint, because that allows me to switch the sizes, colors, font direction and fonts really easy. Before I made it, I downloaded some fonts. Here are the fonts I used: "4.23.11" (steak), "Saturday" (georgia), "elly brynn" (arial black), "12:46 am" (ff confidential but you could use social animal which is similar), "19 3/4 inches long" (courier new), "pounds ounces" (epilog), "6" (king cool kc), "11" (love ya like a sister). Just google the font name and you will be able to find a free download, (except for the ff confidential, so I now use social animal which is free).
In Powerpoint, create a new blank slide. Switch the paper so that it is vertical. Create a new text box for each word. That allows you to have all of the words different fonts, sizes, and colors, etc.
The size of the font will depend on the information you are entering in. You can also use an option in powerpoint that stretches the word to fit the space. I think it looks better with less white space. It is the "a<->v" button at the top, near all of the other font options.
When you are done, just hit print in powerpoint and it will print the subway art to fill the entire page.
second. Print the subway art on a thick card stock.
third. Cut a piece of wood to be 8.5 inches x 11 inches (the size of the paper). I just buy common board from Home Depot that is 12 inches x 8 feet long then I can make a ton. The wood is about 3/4 inches thick.

third. Cut a piece of wood to be 8.5 inches x 11 inches (the size of the paper). I just buy common board from Home Depot that is 12 inches x 8 feet long then I can make a ton. The wood is about 3/4 inches thick.
fourth. Paint the piece of wood white on all sides.
fifth. Drill a hole half way through the board on the back at the top so that you can hang it on a nail.
sixth. When the paint dries, use matte mod podge and apply a thin layer of glue to the front of the piece of wood. Then place the subway art card stock on top of the glue. Press it down with a dry cloth to get any bubbles out.
seventh. After the glue dries, use sandpaper to distress the edges of the wood. It will rip the paper a little but that just adds to the distressed look I think. I use a coarse sandpaper for the wood and then use a very fine sandpaper to lightly go over the letters. If you rub the letters with sandpaper too much, the colors will bleed, so go very lightly in a circular motion. You don't have to do this part, but I like the distressed look it gives.
eighth: When you are done sanding, apply a thin top coat of the matte mod podge. I make sure that I do this quickly and a very thin coat. And that's it!
I hung mine on the wall but you could also just set it on a dresser or mantel. I think I am a bit obsessed with this type of art work because it's basically free and so easy!

I've seen this sort of thing before and think it is such a great idea. I'm planning to do the same thing and put it on a onesie or shirt for him to wear and always keep or one day frame!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a framed onesie!
DeleteI love the idea of a framed onesie!
DeleteThis is great!!! I just made my first printable and I definetly think I am going to tackle this next!! I only have one baby so far and it's hard to remember! :) Cute and I LOVE the colors!!!
ReplyDeleteI looooooooooove this idea! My son was also born in April of last year. He's turning one on the first :) Happy early birthday to Elly!
ReplyDeleteI am new to your blog. Love this! It really caught my eye because one of my daughters is named Brynn Ella.
ReplyDeleteTotally in love with your wall art! Had to pin it!!
ReplyDeleteWhat fonts did you use?
ReplyDeleteI love it all
Here are the fonts I used: "4.23.11" (steak), "Saturday" (georgia), "elly brynn" (arial black), "12:46 am" (ff confidential), "19 3/4 inches long" (courier new), "pounds ounces" (epilog), "6" (king cool kc), "11" (love ya like a sister)
DeleteHope that helps!
I was just about to ask about the fonts and saw this! Thank you so much for posting! The only one I'm missing is ff confidential. I'm off to find a decent free stand-in. LoL!
DeleteI have actually now been using Social Animal font in place of the FF Confidential because you have to pay for FF Confidential. I think it's pretty similar.
DeleteThank you so much for that info!!! *runs off to download font*
DeleteWhat a great job! I love the color combo. Megan
ReplyDeleteThat is very cool! I would love to make these for my 2 kids. I am not familiar with Picnik. Can you share a little more info about how to create that on Picnik? Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteNicole
Actually Picnik is closing in just a few days so I will be switching over to use picmonkey. It's basically the same thing as Picnik and I think for things like this it is easier to use than PhotoShop... but that's just me, I know PhotoShop can do some pretty cool things. So check out picmonkey and it will probably be the same method I used in Picnik: I just took an existing picture, then covered it with a white rectangular shape, then picked different fonts and colors and that's it. You can change the size and direction of the fonts really easily with these programs. Good luck, let me know if you have more questions!
DeleteHow do you do subway art on Picmonkey?
DeleteYou use the same method as in picnik for picmonkey. Take an existing picture, cover it with a white rectangular shape (that you can find on the left columns), then pick different fonts (just add them by clicking on the font option on the left column) and you can can change the color and direction of the text just by clicking on the text.
DeleteOh I love this! Such a cool idea. I'm gonna have to try this! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute!! I love the idea of the printable- so much easier then vinyl!! And cheaper too!!!;)
ReplyDeleteThat's great!! I even have all the stuff to make it!! Thanks for sharing! I love the fonts that you used. I have an Ellie....gabriella and she's the 3rd I hate to admit that i don't remember the time or length! Ill have to look it up and make this as a reminder!
ReplyDeleteI got the picmonkey part done, just gotta get some card stock and mod podge! Thanks for the great idea!
ReplyDeleteThat's really cute! I have some friends that I know would love this for their babies!
ReplyDeleteLove this idea! Love your colors and love the way it looks with the other pictures you have hanging with it. Thanks for sharing idea!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea and would like to get two done before Picnik closes down. Can you tell me how you started the subway art off. I can only find that you have to upload a picture. Did you up load a blank picture from word or paint??
ReplyDeleteI love this! I need to made some subway art ASAP!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I never thought of modge podge-ing it to the wood. Brilliant. By the way, Elly has a wonderful Birthday...it's mine too :) Happy early birthday to your sweety!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this! You did an awesome job! With 6 kids, I definitely need help remember the stats! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove this! BEYOND love the Walk Tall quote!!! SO SO great and true! I need to do something like that for both my kiddos!!

ReplyDeleteI LOVE this, what an amazing idea to keep all those important dates ( i too have 3 children, and I too struggle sometimes !!!).
I love it so much actually that I have spent the last 2 hours creating something similar for my 3 children...
Thanks a lot for sharing

I love this and my sister is prego!!! What a great gift!
ReplyDeleteLove this! Hate to sound like a copy cat but would you be able to upload yours so that the info could just be edited? I'm not very tech savvy and I see that picnik closes in just a few days.
ReplyDeleteI will have my husband figure out how to do that for me :) and when he does, I'll post a pdf. I might not be able to since the program I used, picnik, is closing tomorrow. I'll do my best though! :)
DeleteSeriously... so adorable! You never cease to amaze me with your creativity and talent. This is a fabulous project!
ReplyDeleteTake care,
Trish
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this! I do lots of custom prints with baby stats for folks, but never thought to put them on wood... Aha! Thanks for the inspiration! :)
ReplyDeleteblessings,
lauren @ www.SummitStreetJoy.com
Thank you for this awesome idea. I would love to do this for our nursery!
ReplyDeletewhat size does this turn out to be? it looks 8x10 on the screen, but wanted to check.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's just a standard piece of cardstock 8.5 x 11, I didn't want to have to worry about cutting the paper so I made it easy on me:)
DeleteWhat size did you use for the fonts?
DeleteIt depends on the size of the words. Certain names take up more space than others, so I have to adjust the font sizes to accomodate. And "sunday" takes up less space than "thursday," it all depends on the words you are using. But I think it looks better when the words take up most of the page instead of having big white spaces.
DeleteLove it! The colors are great together. Thanks so much for sharing at Whimsy Wednesdays!
ReplyDeleteThis is just beautiful! Love it as well as your blog! Featured you today - come and have a look and be sure to grab a featured button!!

Hi
ReplyDeleteAgain thank you for sharing this great project. I have featured it and blogged back to you from http://thatcutelittlecake.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/craft-baby-stat-subway-art-feature.html
Virginie @ thatcutelittlecake.blogspot.com
Thank you thank you for sharing this idea! I've been stuck trying to fill one of my daughter's walls! Thanks! Love it!
ReplyDeleteIs there an alternative to FF Confidential? I can only see one that costs $49. I want to make these for my cousin that just had twins.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Check out PicMonkey, they don't have as many fonts as picnick but it's free. You could make your subway art in picmonkey (since picnik closes tomorrow).
DeleteThanks, I was going to make it in PhotoShop Elements and cannot find a close font. I will look at the other site to see if something is similiar to that one.
DeleteErica
Sorry I can't be more help, have you tried to google it and see if you can download it from a different site?
DeleteThis is lovely!! And I would have never of guessed it was printed paper! Great alternative to using a fancy cutting machine! Pinned it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing at Show & Share...featuring it in tomorrow's party!
What size did you end up printing the cardstock on? What size was the piece of wood you used? I am trying to di this on picmonkey right now and can't figure out how I am going to print this on an 8.5x11 piece of paper? does it ask you at the end when you are done?
ReplyDeleteI didn't actually pick a size, after I made it, I saved it to my desktop and then opened it in my desktop and then printed it off and it took up the whole page. In PicMonkey you can pick the pixles, so make it as many pixels as it will allow, so that when it is printed off it won't pixelate being blown up to an 8.5 x 11 print. I hope that helps answer your question. Please let me know if you have more questions.
Deletethanks sarah! I just ended up printing it after I posted this to see what happened and it worked :) just like you said it took up the whole page!!! Thank you so much. I made Two today for both my girls :) Love them!!! By the way I haven't mod Podged the top of the cardstock yet...I got the Matte Paper Mod Podge, is that what you used? There were so many to choose from when I went to the store I just picked that one bc it said paper on it, but I'm afraid of ruining the cardstock if it's the wrong one???
DeleteYou are awesome for the quick repsonses!! take care
That is the same kind I have, but you could always test it on a piece of card stock to make sure it doesn't wrinkle or anything.
DeleteThanks for linking up to Showcase Your Talent Thursday, you have been featured http://whatscookinglove.blogspot.com/2012/04/showcase-your-talent-thursday-3.html
ReplyDeleteI know I have commented on this before, but I just wanted to let you know I am featuring your cute subway art stats at todays link party! Wahoo!!

What a super cute idea and so much easier than I thought! I'm pinning this to make a WHOLE bunch of baby gifts very soon. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteAww.. I love this! Too cute! And goes perfectly in your daughters room :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up last week.. you were the most viewed link! Check it out tomorrow!
First, i want to say that I LOVE this idea. I think this a a great idea to give to mothers right after the birth of the baby. With that being said, I have a few questions and I apologize if they're dumb (yes, there is such a thing). Since I'm not familiar with picmonkey.com at all, i don't really understand how to do this. Do I have to create a word document first and then go to picmonkey to edit it? If so, how can i upload a word document on picmonkey to edit it? Any help you can provide would be appreciated
ReplyDeleteThis is great, I have just been over to picmonkey and made my own - so easy. I used any old picture went on the shapes bit and drew a large square and expanded it so it covered my picture thus creating a white background. then added my text with the text tool. you can change size and place and angle to what you like. fonts are limited but still its great. thanks again.
ReplyDeleteSince i'm new to picmonkey, please excuse my ignorance, but how do you change the font color?
DeleteAfter you press enter and the text is on your photo area, a little box pops up. There is a color wheel and a little white circle that you can drag around the color wheel to select your color. Then just press enter when you find the color you want.
DeleteFirst off, I love this!! I made one in Publisher but I wasn't really happy with how it came out and I wasn't sure what to do with it afterwards so this helps! And I was so mad that Picnik was closed and wasn't sure where to play with my pics - thanks for the PicMonkey tip!!!
ReplyDeleteMy mod podge ran the colors and ruined the card stock! Any suggestions? The paper also ripped when I "lightly" sanded. I used regular mod podge, maybe I needed the one especially for paper and a heavier grit sandpaper? I used fine grit. Help!
ReplyDeleteMan that sounds horrible! I used Mod Podge Matte-Mat which says it's for all surfaces. Make sure the ink is completely dry before you put the mod podge on it. I used a light grit sandpaper on the card stock and then a heavier grit on the wood. You may get a little ripping of the paper, but nothing major. Also, make sure the modge pod is completely dry before sanding. And be gentle sanding.
DeleteAnonymous, I had the same problem. I made two of these (one for my cousin's baby and one for my own child) and both times the colors bled. I used a middle shade of pink for the name on one and a dark purple for the other. Needless to say, the dark purple was much more noticeable when it bled (and I even "sponged" the Mod Podge instead of "smearing" it across the card stock). I let a test print dry for 24 hours and I still had bleeding of the color ink. After some researching, I found that some craft people suggest using an acrylic sealer prior to adding the Mod Podge. It's said to take about 4-5 coats of the sealer before adding the Mod Podge. I'm going to try my hand at this again and try the sealer. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will work since I don't have access to a laser printer and I really don't feel like going to a shop to have the prints done. :)
DeleteHmmm.... I wonder if it's the cardstock or your ink. Because it sounds like the mod podge and method is the exact way that I do it. I have high quality thick cardstock. I also have an Epson ink jet printer and have good quality ink in it. Other than that, I'm not sure. I have made about a dozen of them by now and have never had any of those problems.
DeleteInteresting that you brought up the matter of ink because my mum wondered the same thing. We have a newer HP ink jet printer and we use the HP ink and never do the "refill" thing and always buy new cartridges. I've never owned an Epson printer, though I may buy one the next time we need a new one! The card stock I use is by Georgia-Pacific and is the 110 weight.
DeleteI did buy the Mod Podge Acrylic Sealer spray (didn't even know they made one!), applied it 6 or 7 times on a page I printed this afternoon and I just did the craft and there was NO bleeding! I mentally jumped up and down so to not wake my daughter, but I was ecstatic. I've had so many ideas for different takes on this craft (baptism stats being one of them) and I'm pleased I'll be able to do them without the bleeding mishap.
Thank you so much, Sarah, for sharing your wonderful ideas with us!
Oh good, I'm glad it worked!
DeleteI have just been over to picmonkey and created my own - so simple. I used any old image went on the forms bit and received a huge rectangle and extended it so it protected my image thus developing a bright qualifications.
ReplyDeleteHow do I get just a "plain" background in PicMonkey? Do I just super crop a photo??
ReplyDeleteNevermind, I found the overlay feature which seems to fit my purposes just fine! Amazing - now I won't get anything else done this weekend because I'll be making my own cool wall art! THANK YOU!
DeleteHey, I absolutely love this. Where did you get your piece of wood? Can I just go to a hardwood store and have them cut one for me? I've never done this before. How thick is your wood and what kind did you use. Thanks so much for your help.
ReplyDeleteI had some wood leftover from a previous project. Yes you can go to a hardware store and they can help you cut some wood, at least I know they do that at Home Depot. I cut mine 8.5 x 11 inches, and it's about a 1/2 inch thick. I would stay away from MDF or particle board, I would make sure to get actual wood because I don't know how well it would do when you go to sand it. You could also check at a place like Hobby Lobby or other craft store because they have pre cut pieces of wood, that have a decorative edge and different shapes, like circle or square.
DeleteThis is an adorable idea!! I love the whole wall!!
ReplyDeleteHow do I change the dimensions of the document while I'm still working in picmonkey? My current working document appears to be a square so it's hard for me to picture how things will look in 8 1/2 x 11.
ReplyDeleteIn picmonkey, I would upload a vertical picture and then work on it from there. I am not sure if you can change a landscape picture to be an 8.5 x 11 print. Just do a vertical picture, then save it to your desktop and then on your desktop, double click on it and when it pops up, select the print option or hit control p or whatever it may be for your computer. You shouldn't have to upload it to a new program to be able to print it. Good luck!
DeleteHiya hun. I love this so much I featured it on my blog this morning. I would love it if you could go and check it out :)

Hi Sarah, in the last picture the subway art is leaning against a striped wall, I would love to know the details such as did you paint it or is it wallpaper. If paint, what is the paint colors etc! Would love to know...thanks.
ReplyDeleteJen
The grey is behr paint color "gentle rain" and I just painted white stripes.
DeleteHi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI too had the same problem with the Mod Podge streaking the ink when I put the top coat on over the cardstock....and I waited a day and a half for the ink to dry before I did the mod podge on the top?? So my next Question is do you have an ink jet or laser printer? I have an HP inkjet and I was thinking maybe that's my problem??? maybe you have a laser???Did you use the Mod Podge with the Blue Label or the Yellow Label :) Sorry such detailed questions, I just want to figure out why my ink keeps running :(
Man that's too bad it didn't work for you. I am not sure why I haven't run in to those problems yet... I have an ink printer and I use the yellow label "matte mod podge." When applying the top coat, I just applied a thin coat and very quickly, I didn't keep wiping the mod podge around or else it would start ripping the paper a little. I also used a sponge brush to apply the mod podge. Hope that helps!
DeleteAnonymous, I just replied about this above but wanted to share with you as well! There is a Mod Podge Acrylic Sealer spray that should do the trick. I have a HP ink jet as well and I was having nothing but trouble with the color ink. After two failed attempts, I researched on the net and found out about the acrylic sealer trick. I tried it today (applied 6-7 coats at least 15 minutes apart) and just did the craft and I had no bleeding! As Sarah stated, I used a sponge brush to apply it but I dab mine to give it a textured look. That may have been part of my problem (now that I see Sarah said she applied a thin coat quickly without wiping the Mod Podge around), but now I can do it that way thanks to the sealer! But, word of warning, the sealer does have a odor. It's stinky, but it works!
Deletelove this, just recreated it in photoshop...and my babies are almost 8 and almost 6 lol
ReplyDeleteIn the picture of the whole wall, the top frame with "elly" is very cute!! did you make that too? If so, how did you do it?
ReplyDeleteThanks, I did make it, here is a link to the tutorial http://thewinthropchronicles.blogspot.com/2011/09/trash-to-treasure.html
DeleteWhat a great idea! I am so excited to make this for my son. Silly question - where do you get the wood for this project? Do they sell 8.5 x 11 wood plaques at Michaels?
ReplyDeleteI just discovered this on Pinterest and made up one for each of my children. They look absolutely gorgeous. I've printed them from my colour printer onto white A4 sheets and am planning to put them in a white Ikea frame. Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI found this on Pinterest and I'm so glad I did! I just created one for my daughter. I have a Mac and used Pages. It was pretty easy. Thank you so much for listing the fonts. I found all the ones I didn't have at dafont.com.
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI love this and keep meaning to try and do it but am scared. Do you or would you make them to order?
Yes, I sell them at my shop here http://thewinthropchroniclesshop.blogspot.com/2012/05/baby-stats-subway-art.html
DeleteThanks Sarah. Just placed my order.
DeleteI absolutely love this tutorial! I really loved how easy it was to follow as well! I've combined the idea of this tutorial with another tutorial and would love if you had the time to stop by and take a look!
ReplyDeletehttp://wildflowerswonders.blogspot.com/2012/06/when-two-tutorials-become-one.html
Hi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteLove this tutorial!! What kind of printer do you use to print out your projects?
I just have an Epson ink jet printer
DeleteSarah,
ReplyDeleteDid you paint the entire surface of the wood? Or just the edges?
Yes, I painted all surfaces of the wood.
DeleteI love this!! Thanks for posting the tutorial. In the tutorial you mentioned you did this in powerpoint but then in the comments you say you do this in picmonkey? Also, I am having a hard time flipping/rotating the time like you have it...any tips?
ReplyDeleteI clarified it a little in the post, thanks for bringing that to my attention that it sounded confusing. Are you using powerpoint? If you are, create a new text box for each word. Then, when you click on the individual text box, just above the top of the box in the middle, there will be a little ball that you can rotate and it spins the text box around.
DeleteI just did this in PowerPoint but can't find how to stench the word to have less white space. I don't have the a<->v button. Any other suggestions?
ReplyDeleteMy only suggestion would be to google it to find out. Sorry. My husband was the one who told me about it. Before I realized that the word stretch was there, I would play with the size of the word or just hit the space bar in between each letter.
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteJust wondering what kind of glue you used. Love the idea and I'm trying to recreate it.
I used Matte Mod Podge as the glue
ReplyDeleteHi, Sarah,
ReplyDeletei love the "stand tall you're a daughter of God" wall art you used. did you make that as well? if so how? thanks!
I actually just typed it up in Word, switched the letters to the right margin, changed the color and printed it out on a piece of paper. Then use a white matte and frame.
DeleteHi Sarah, I'm in the process of making a couple of these, and on my first one after applying the first layer of mod podge and gluing the cardstock on, I pressed it to get bubbles out and let it sit for more than a day, maybe 2 days before I got back to it to put the over coat on and when I applied the mod podge the paper bubbled really bad. Maybe I didn't put enough glue on the first layer? Any suggestions? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure why it did that... the first and second coats just need to be thin and even. With the bottom coat, it all needs to be wet when you are placing the card stock on, so you just need to work fast. And the top coat should be very thin. I know one time I had a few bubbles and they went away when the top coat dried. Let me know what you end up doing with it.
DeleteHi! I just found your site yesterday and I really love this idea! I'm hoping to use this as a cover for a group birthday present for my grandma who will turn 88 on 8/8 :) I've already got my first try done on PowerPoint, but I'm hoping you can help with a couple questions...1)when I see my image on the screen, it shows that everything will print; but when I print, the "M" in "9:15 AM" doesn't print. Any idea why and how I can get everything to print? 2)how can the margins for the entire slide be changed? I've never used PowerPoint, but I really like it! Thank you for any help you can give :)
ReplyDeleteI think it might be the printer. I think some printers have requirements for margins and won't let you print with a smaller margin. My two suggestions would be to either make the letters smaller so that they don't go in to the margin, or save your subway art as a PDF (just when you hit save as, pick the selection to save it as a PDF) sometimes a PDF can override any printer settings.
DeleteYou are a genius and a live saver! Saving the file as PDF worked! Now, I can also print out the three prints that I have made for my three sons. Thanks so much!!
DeleteThis is so very awesome and I can't wait to try this especially for my new home!
ReplyDeleteLOVE THIS!! What size font did you use? I know it depends on what is written but more or less because I am having a hard time filling up the page and I think my font sizes are too small
ReplyDeleteI'm having the same problem! Help!
DeleteI would just keep increasing the font size to fit the page. Or use the A<>V button in powerpoint to stretch the words. You can also adjust your margins so that the words go right to the edge. Here are some of my font sizes:
Deleteelly: 195
brynn: 158
saturday: 88
4.23.11: 150
12:46:100
19 3/4 inches: 44
pounds:150
ounces:150
6:115
11: 62
Sarah -- I can't tell you how much I LOVE this idea! What a great way to remember these stats and display them forever. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI've been playing around in PowerPoint to make my own. I plan to do a post on my blog with what I've come up with so far. I will be referencing your blog several times. Please let me know if this is a problem at all. I just want to give you credit for such an awesome idea!
http://hopefaithandblessings.blogspot.com/
Oh you're so nice to ask! Of course you can reference my blog!
DeleteHey Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI have a question. When I do the last step and put the mod podge over my project I continue to have problems with the colors bleeding on the paper. I am using a very thick card stock like you suggested and I don't know how I can be much lighter or quicker when putting it on. Any suggestions?
Hi, I noticed in some of the comments above, some people bought the Mod Podge Acrylic Sealer spray and they applied a few coats of that on top instead of the Mod Podge glue. They said it didn't bleed then. So you could try that. Hope that does the trick for you!
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this and am in the process of making one. I just downloaded some fonts. What is the secret to getting the fonts on PP? Thanks!
You have to install the fonts on to your computer. If I remember right, I just clicked to download the font, then it appears on my desktop then I double clicked on the folder and it gave me the option to install the font. So I clicked on install. I think I may have had to restart the computer or re open Power Point so that the fonts showed up on the list of fonts.
DeleteMy home printer isn't the best so I copied the power point file to a flash drive and took it to a print shop. Their computer reformatted the fonts. I had to transfer the file to a pdf in order to get it printed. I'm not done yet but I am very excited about the finished produce. Thanks for the tutorial!
ReplyDeleteCan I use photo paper instead of cardstock?
ReplyDeleteI have never used photo paper but it's worth a shot right?!
DeleteI accidentally saved over the original powerpoint template :( Now I can't seem to find it again online...can't wait to do one for each of my 2 boys!!! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteI saw your sign on Pinterest and I am laughing because you and I had our babies only about and hour and half apart. I had my baby boy at 11:07pm on April 22! I love what you did for her and looking forward to doing this for my little Landon!
ReplyDeleteI loved your idea and made both my sons one and a few friends one for their babies. Then I had all this left over wood. So I made door signs using the same idea. They turned out great!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great tutorial!
When you say to "glue" the paper down, do you mean with the mod podge?
ReplyDeleteYes
DeleteJust wanted to thank you for the awesome instructions for the Subway Art! I recently designed them for my kids and for my friends' kiddos... still have yet to put on canvas or wood... Gave you a shout out in my blog with a link to your blog. You rock!
ReplyDeleteTo be grateful is to be fulfilled!

May I ask what type and brand of cardstock you used? Have checked Joann's and can't find any good cardstock that 8.5 by 11. Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is just from WalMart Georgia Pacific brand 110 weight.
DeleteI downloaded the powerpoint but its asking for a product key, how do I get around that?
ReplyDeleteI am not sure... I think that means that you don't have PowerPoint on your computer and you would have to install it. But I don't really know, I have never see that before. Sorry!
DeleteAfter the last step of mod podge after sanding, did you apply only to the sanded area or on top of cardstock too?
ReplyDeleteThat's a good question. I apply the mod podge over the entire top of the cardstock.
Deleteuhhh yea, the Mod Podge smeared everything. not cool at all.
DeleteI am not sure why it smeared. The possibilities it could be are the printer (mine is an Epson ink jet printer), waiting until the ink on the card stock is completely dry (I usually wait a few hours), the card stock quality (I buy thick high quality card stock), the mod podge (I use the name brand matte Mod Podge), I also use a sponge brush and apply a very thin coat. Other than those suggestions, I am not sure. I make about 2 of these a day (I sell them) and I have never had a problem like that. You could also try using the mod podge spray, I used that once and the colors didn't bleed. Good luck!
DeleteWhat size drill bit do you use to drill the nail hole in the back?
ReplyDeleteI just use whatever size I need to fit over the nailhead... usually it's 1/4 inch drill bit.
DeleteWhat I noticed is that the trend for Personalised baby gifts is to make it personalized. Gone are the days when people give "generic" gifts. Now, you'll see much more effort in having it customized even if it means going the extra mile.
ReplyDeletehello verry interesting staff here too http://sharfey.wordpress.com/
